The forecasted Fire Danger Rating for Tuesday, August 16, 2022 is HIGH

All fine dead fuels ignite readily and fires start easily from most causes. Unattended brush and campfires are likely to escape. Fires spread rapidly and short-distance spotting is common. High-intensity burning may develop on slopes or in concentrations of fine fuels. Fires may become serious and their control difficult unless they are attacked successfully while still small.

This fire danger level is indicated by the color yellow along with the word HIGH on fire danger signs.   Fire Danger Signs are located on along the northbound lanes of the William Floyd Parkway just south of the Brookhaven National Lab entrance and at the DEC trail parking area on the north side of Route 25 west of Woodlot Road.   This alert will remain posted until the danger level changes.

Please Note the following precautions;

  • Avoid outdoor fires of any kind

  • Do not discard cigarettes from vehicles or while hiking

  • Avoid idling vehicles off road or on the grassy shoulder of roadways.

  • Call 911 if you observe fire or smoke in the pine barrens. Do not assume someone else has called.

  • Clear back brush and debris near your home or business.

  • Keep driveways and fire hydrants clear to allow access by emergency responders
