The members of the Ridge Fire Volunteer Department are dedicated to providing highest level of emergency medical care. We currently have 15 members certified as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) providing Basic Life Support (BLS) level of care, 2 Emergency Medical Technician - Critical Care providers (EMT-CC) and 1 Paramedic (EMT-P). These certifications are based on New York State EMS curriculum and Suffolk County Protocol. NYS EMS falls under the authority of the NYS Department Of Health and all of our ambulances and first responder units are certified by NYS Department Of Transportation for meeting NYS standards regarding equipment and minimum inventory. Our Department operates 3 ACLS ambulances and 2 ACLS equipped First Responder vehicles, {See our apparatus pages}. All members are given the opportunity to increase their certification and knowledge by taking, at no cost, State sanctioned certification classes. All EMT, EMT-CC and CPR classes are provided to the members of the Department at no cost. In January 2004, the Department will be forming an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Company. This will be a new unit within the Ridge Fire Department. The formation of an EMS Company will allow us to place a greater emphasis on EMS which accounts for the larger portion of our call volume. We are currently seeking new volunteers to help us staff our new EMS Company Number 4. See the link below for more information. The Ridge Volunteer Fire Department provides CPR instruction for all its members and residents of the Ridge Fire District at no cost. Training is provided by an American Heart Association {www.americanheart.org} BCLS instructor with 8 years of continuous certification and 10 years of EMS experience. For information please contact the EMS office at 631-924-3256 extension 20 or fax us at 631-924-6142 or email at EMS@ridgefd.org |
