For 1999, Mattel has expanded the regular Matchbox line from 75 to 100 models, all grouped in categories and renumbered (again). Meanwhile, the international series applies a different set of models to the 1-75 series, packaged in a window box. Series 1 models all have “Ridge, New York” livery as the winning town in the 1998 Matchbox USA contest, where applicants register their town to win $25,000 and have their town’s name appear on a Matchbox vehicle. The back of each package offers a similar contest for 1999. In addition, a series of 75 international issues were produced and marketed in window boxes. Here is the US series.
